On
Boxing Day local MP Jeff Ennis visited the home of Mr. And Mrs. Bob
Davidson on
Nancy Road
in Grimethorpe. The occasion was to mark their 72nd Wedding
Anniversary. Jeff said," I'm very pleased to present Mr. And Mrs.
Bob Davidson with a bottle of House of Commons whisky to celebrate this
momentous occasion. They must be two of the longest married people
in England let alone S. Yorkshire."
Mr. Davidson who was connected with Grimethorpe Colliery Band until his
eighties said, " It's a very nice gesture to receive this gift from
our local MP. It was also nice to receive a Xmas card from Her Majesty
the Queen as well".
Mr. Davidson went on to say," I'm glad I received the whisky
because one of the reasons I put down for having such a long life is
because I have a tot of whisky in my tea every morning and every
night". Accompanying Jeff Ennis to present the whisky was local
councillor Arthur Whittaker who said," It's good to see Bob after
all these years I remember working with Bob at Grimethorpe Pit many
years ago".
